Thanksgiving Day

Growing up as an Army brat, I learned what it meant to spend holidays away from Family and friends. Our holidays were always what we made them to be. Cards and photos from loved ones were intermixed with our traditional holiday decorations. No matter what, I was always thankful for my Family.

Sometimes, Family is all you have, especially when Soldiers and Families live in foreign countries. When you arrive at a new duty station, even if you don’t know anyone and everything is chaotic, your Family always remains constant.

Now, I’m an Army wife and I’m preparing to cook my first Thanksgiving meal. Luckily, I have Family close by, but more than 2,500 miles separates my husband’s Family from our dinner table. Not only am I trying to include some of my mom’s favorite recipes and dishes, but now, I have to accommodate my husband, too. Since he grew up on the west coast, he doesn’t have the same appreciation for homemade cornbread dressing that I have, but, after some research, I think I found a recipe that might appeal to him.

Hopefully, we can merge our own tastes and individual Family favorites to create our own Thanksgiving spread that we can eventually share with our children. Here are some of my favorite recipes along with some I’ve collected from friends and some new ones I intend to try this year.
